PostgreSQL DBA

Job Description

An Experienced PostgreSQL (DBA) willing to work in a 24-7 environment and on-call as needed. This position will be working under the management of our Database department. This position will primarily work with software engineers and developers, but also participate on cross functional teams to achieve desired results. The position is a hands-on position responsible for configuring, integrating, and maintaining all the companies Development, Staging and Production PostgreSQL databases. This position will be responsible for all backup, recovery, and upgrading of all of the companies PostgreSQL databases. The position also includes monitoring databases to optimize database performance and diagnosing any issues. The DBA will also help develop, implement, maintain policies and procedures and document database architecture to ensure the security and integrity of the databases. They will implement data models, database designs, data access, table maintenance and code changes. The DBA will work towards excellence and actively participate in the continual improvement of the department and company.

Minimum Requirements
  1. 3-4 years of administering a large PostgreSQL database.
  2. Must have the ability to do performance tuning to meet and assist the needs of the Application Development teams using PostgreSQL as it's backend database.
  3. Must have experience backing up and restoring PostgreSQL database on a regular basis.
  4. Designing and Managing PostgreSQL database schemas.
  5. Experience in Security access control
  6. Experience with testing
  7. Experience with configuration management
  8. Experience with version control
  9. Working knowledge of estimating
Desirable Skills
  1. Excellent Decision-making , Organizational and problem solving skills
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Bilingual in Japanese is a plus)
  3. PL/SQL knowledge is a plus
  4. Experience setting up and using PostgreSQL database replication is a Big plus
  5. Basic Unix/Linux admin experience
  6. Familiar with Oracle databases is a plus
  7. Any programming skills including Java, Perl, Unix scripting
